About Kids' Place:
The Kids' Place is a successful early childhood education program that attracts island kids and visitors year round. The program has been a vital support to working families and is critical to the success of the year-round island population. It is also a feeder to the Chebeague Island School and a close community partner with the school and other organizations.
The Kid's Place building opened Summer 2010 and is designed to meet specific needs as well as meet all the code requirements for an early learning childcare facility. There is appropriate space for activities, play areas, a child-friendly bathroom, storage and a separate quite napping room for infants and toddlers. This building is essential to our summer programs, including many summer island friends. The children spend many hours outdoors exploring our island. The program focuses on using our best resource, our island home, as a classroom.
Each day is filled with free play, circle time, and activities geared towards age appropriate development and incorporating Montessori learning elements. Children work on sorting, counting and beginning sounds as well as developing fine and gross motor skills. Most importantly, children learn to problem solve, share and engage in purposeful play together. Every day the students sing songs, read, play outside and work on arts and crafts. The program focuses on fostering a love for the outdoors and our environment by spending time outside, in the island environment.
The Kids' Place is open Monday through Friday 7:30 to 4:30pm. Ages 6 weeks to 12 years welcome.

Are you interested in Kids' Place but you live on the the mainland?
Come join our community by enrolling your child in Kids’ Place! Our early childhood education program is based on Chebeague Island, a 15 minute ferry ride from Cousins Island. Mainland-based students will meet the transportation-certified teachers on Cousins Island by 8:15a to commute to the island. Once on-island, they will drive the 1.5 miles to Kids’ Place to join the other children. They will then be transported back to the mainland with a teacher on either the 4pm or 5pm boat.
We pride ourselves on low teacher to student ratios with a multi-aged classroom. Cost for mainland-based students is $70 per day including transportation. E-mail Director, Caitlin Whetham, [email protected]
